Brass Monkey Kayak Race Series

21 May - 28 May - 11 June - 18 June 2017

The Brass Monkey Kayak Race series was started over 30 years ago by the White Water Canoe Club, and has become one of the largest kayak race series in New Zealand. Returning again for 2017, it is run in winter, hence its name. The race format is four races and takes part over four weekends spaced approximately two weeks apart. The dates for 2017 are:

21 May - 28 May - 11 June - 18 June

The race is run over a distance of approximately 12km on the Waimakariri river just to the north of Christchurch. The Waimakariri River is one of the South Island of New Zealand’s largest braided rivers. The section that the race series is run on is Grade 2 and offers a great race experience for elite to novice paddlers. Many use the race as training for the legendary Coast to Coast multisport race
